SUPERWOMAN
Written By: Lakisha Shanklin
When I tell you I am tired and tried... I am tired and tried. Daily I feel like a robot with batteries that will soon end. My day starts with hearing the words, “Mom can I have” and end with the words “Mom can I have.” It is like a song on repeat that I can’t change from even though I’m tired of hearing it. It is sad when you get excited about going to the gym because you know that is the only moment you can breathe. That is the only moment you will have to yourself but even there you don’t fully escape. Moments away are disturbed by rings on your cell phone with more demands. You are no longer you. You are a mother and SUPERWOMAN.
In this world of mothering, the words “I need” don’t stop. Whether single or married the mother carries a burden. Parenting is so rewarding yet so draining. “Please save me”, I want to scream some days. Then there are those moment...the moments where your child gives you a hug after a long day of work. The moments when the patter of their feet running toward you as they scream I love you turn your frown into a smile. Those moments are the treasures that push you to continue.
You put that cape on and become the superwoman everyone sees you as every day. Your feelings and emotions pushed to the side for the betterment of another. Driving children and their friends around becomes a burden but you do it because they depend on you. Even though the parents of some of these kids won’t send them with a dollar or ever give your kid a ride, you still smile and present yourself in a pleasant way. I digress….You are amazing! If you are a mom turn those days of "What will I do next" into days of "I will make the best out of this situation?" You have to do this for your sanity because mom duties are never-ending. Only when we close our eyes at night do we rest! Nyquil me please! J

How I Met The Author
A little over two years ago, we again packed our kids, dog, and everything we owned and moved to Chicago, IL for a new role with "the" company. Only this time "the" company also became "my" company. Stressed and nervous to about everything, I started my first day and met Lakisha Shanklin. Like an angel from heaven, she helped me figure out what I was doing in my new role, gave me a shoulder to cry on when I was into my 3rd month of hotel living, and helped me to always see that regardless of how crazy things got...that I AM BLESSED. She is a powerful writer, mother and friend but most of all she wears a "S" on her chest every day because... She is a SUPERWOMAN.. yes she is!
