Letter To My Younger Self...
Written By: Lakisha Shanklin
If I could write a note to my younger self in regards to relationships I would encourage her. I would tell her love doesn’t hurt nor is it forced. The younger me always did things the hard way. Cried for people to stay, begged to be loved, and looked to others for validation. If only someone would have told me that I was WORTHY. If someone would have told me to let go of the hands of those that don’t want to grasp my hold. Oh how I wish someone would have told me. So today I am writing this note to my younger self to free myself from her pain. I am writing this note to let go of all the heartache she is trying to carry into my happy days. I am writing this note to keep her face of despair and loneliness away from me. I am writing this note to become free of her…
Dear Kisha,
Even though people don’t understand you God does. Even though you feel left behind by the people that should love and treasure you, know you are beauty. Not the external definition of beauty that will one day fade but internally beautiful because of your heart. You will meet people that will say they love you but they won’t know how to handle your heart so let them go. You will meet people that smile in your face but talk about you and throw stones at the house you are trying to build, let them make you stronger. There will be moments that you feel alone because you struggle in silence; know your struggle will change the lives of others. You will suffer, but know your suffering will be overly rewarded when you are strong enough to receive your blessing. The last shall be first, so although you feel last in everything your first will be greater than most will ever know because you will be prepared for it. It is all preparation. Preparing for the best sometimes hurt. Just know when the storm is over no one can bring clouds your way because you will be too polished; shining like the sun. Know your WORTH! The value you place on yourself is the value others will see. If you think you are not enough you will not be. Validation is yours and yours alone. Always know you deserve love because you are a child of the most high. Never let others change your heart. Even in moments of pain and hurt find ways to love every part of you because you gave it your best. Remember to fall in love with yourself daily, embrace your flaws, and pray for a vision of your purpose. You are worthy because God says so! You are not tarnished because you have children out of wedlock. God blessed you with children that will help you grow. You are not damaged because you have yet to experience true love. The lessons you will learn from the heartache you experience will teach you to recognize true love when it come. Take time to learn how to be a Proverbs 31 woman; they are rare. By preparing your heart, your mind, and your soul for the one God has for you, you will receive his best. Never give up on love because it never fails. People fail at love, love does not fail people. Keep your heart sacred and full of joy. Don’t let the care others provide your heart determine how you allow your heart to give and receive.
If you do all the above your future will be bright. I know it is easy to say take time for yourself, love yourself, don’t hold the hands of people you want if they don’t want you. I know that is not always easy. However, always try to view yourself from the lens of God. Try to look at yourself with an infinite love with no boundaries. If you do this the level your match will have to reach to receive you will be one that will only attract those that truly deserve you. Love you the way I love you.
P.S. I’ve been where you are and I know where you are going.
Love your Future….
These words would have impacted me in such a positive way when I was younger. Yet, by stating those now I am letting the younger me that still rest inside me full of shame, doubt, and bitterness know that I/we are stronger than we could imagine. Our strength is power to grow. I release all negative thoughts the younger me had and welcome the positive growth the older me bring. Love the lessons, let go of the pain…What would you say to the younger you? It is an empowering experience that you should try. Let her go and grow!
